Walt Disney World’s recently adapted reservation system looks like it’s here to stay for at least another few years–at least, according to their reservation system, which has available reservation dates through 2023.
For those not familiar, following the reopening of the Walt Disney World theme parks last year on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the resort implemented a reservation system requiring all guests to book a reservation at their desired Disney park of choice prior to the day of their visit as a means to limit guest capacity.
The idea behind the system was that the theme parks would not have to turn guests away at the turnstiles because park goers would know prior to leaving their hotel or house if they’d have a spot that day in the park. Upon its premiere, the system was meant to be temporary–or at least until Disney World was no longer limiting its capacity to smaller than pre-covid days.
However, judging from the reservation system’s open availability through the next few years, it seems Walt Disney World park guests will be following these pre-booking procedures for quite some time to come. Currently, the Walt Disney World theme parks are operating at a cap of 35% capacity.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek said he expects strict safety precautions, like the wearing of facial coverings and social distancing markers, to stay at the parks through the end of the year.
“Will there be overlap until we know we hit herd immunity? Sure, there will,” Chapek said. “But do we think we will be in the same state of 6-foot social distancing and mask-wearing in 2022? Absolutely not.”
At this time, it is not known if the reservation system will stay in place following these new reservation dates.
